The Conservative Party Manifesto opens with the words:

Over the last five years, we have put our country back on the right track. Five years ago, Britain was on the brink... Since then, we have turned things around.

However, when you look at the figures for the growth in UK GDP  they do not match this claim. For the three financial quarters before the election on 6th May 2010 the UK economy had been growing and the Conservative-LibDem Coalition inherited a Growth Rate of 1% of GDP, the highest in the past 5 years and higher than that achieved so far by George Osborne and Danny Alexander who managed to achieve a Growth Rate of  0.9% of GDP in the first quarter of 2014. This was not a “broken economy” and certainly not an economy “on the brink”.

The Conservative candidate for Hendon last night failed for the third time so far in this General Election campaign to attend a hustings to defend his five year record. The West Hendon Residents Association hustings took place at Marsh Drive community centre for residents in the NW9 postal district of West Hendon. 

Mr Offord was also a no show at the Middlesex University and Mencap hustings.

Andrew Dismore, Labour Parliamentary candidate for Hendon and  London Assembly member for Barnet and Camden has backed Labour’s plans to recruit 20,000 more nurses by 2020, including 3,400 nurses  for London.

Under the Conservatives nurse numbers have failed to keep pace with demand, while more than half of nurses say their ward is dangerously understaffed.

Labour will protect the NHS and ensure we have a health service ready to meet future challenges.

Andrew Dismore, Labour Parliamentary candidate for Hendon and  London Assembly member for Barnet and Camden has released today figures that show private sector renters in London are now paying nearly half of their gross income on rent. The figures, compiled by the House of Commons Library show that the average private rent in London now consumes 49% of average pay. In Barnet the figures show rents are taking up 46% of income.
